Disappear Incompletely

Disappear Incompletely is an electro-jazz ensemble dedicated to performing new arrangements of the music of Radiohead.

DI founder and trombonist/arranger Rob Ewing envisions the project as a jazz group in the process sense of the term. The music is full of improvisation and subtle interactions, but the raw materials of the arrangements come from all over the musical map. Jazz has always thrived on re-imagining the popular music of the day. In DI, you’ll hear Radiohead, but you’ll hear the Radiohead we’ve imagined. This is Radiohead + every other music we love in a new dynamic and organic synthesis. The only limits are the songs themselves. Everything else is wide open.

The horn section features two of the most distinctive and engaging saxophonists in San Francisco.

Kasey Knudsen and Patrick Cress come from opposite ends of the jazz spectrum - Kasey the traditionalist, Patrick the avant-guardist. What they have in common is an amazing expressiveness. As soloists, they each possess a highly developed individual voice, as a section, they are able to sound as one.

The DI rhythm section features drummer/trickster Jamie Moore, long one of our favorite drummers having worked with NYC experimental jazz artists Chris Speed and Cuong Vu. Jamie is the groove master (see his website beatnikbeats.com for a menu of downloadable beats of his creation) and he also brings an improvisational light-heartedness to the sometimes-somber Radiohead sound world that keeps the music fun.

Electric Bassist/Lead Vocalist Joe Bagale is the pop artist of the group. An accomplished and potent improviser, making innovative use of electronic bass loops and filters, Joe is also a soulful vocalist and has the rare ability to take the melodies of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and make them convincingly his own.

The keyboard chair in the group has been fluid, making use of some of the most exciting players in the Bay Area including teenage phenom Julian Pollack, Matt Berkeley, Jarrett Cherner, and Adam Shulman - each possessing a personal approach helping to keep things fresh and in the moment.

Formed in March 2006, Disappear Incompletely has performed at the Downtown Berkeley Jazz Festival, the Jazzschool and live music venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
